Informal "Street Gallery Art" Daily Painting Exhibitions
My name is Alan G Shiner. I started painting at an early age as a result of watching my father paint holiday scenes on the windows in at the Detroit Airport for North Central Airlines. Does anyone remembers that airline. I believed I had the same talent as my father and wanted to be just like him as most every young boy would. In third grade, I received a large art box filled with an assortment of artists' supplies. I gained more confidence and began excelling in art and won many art contests as a kid in elementary school. During this time my elementary teachers told me they had to let some of the other kids win, even if my art was the better. I understood and wanted the others to feel the good feelings I had when I win. I started to make pastel drawings for all of the teachers and they love it. I really enjoyed having something I was good at. Soon my teachers had me decorating the class room and hall cork boards in the school and making the programs for the school plays. I would draw scenes and cartoon characters on large white rolls of paper playing with color and outlines and working out perspective. As I developed into a teen we moved to Palm Beach FL. to the town of Wellington. I had business cards made. "Art Work By Alan" My first entrepreneur experience. I still entered contest in high school and painting on windows for holidays. I then began to do window lettering as well. Soon I began to get jobs with the local businesses including the local insurance company. I would repaint the lettering and designs on window that would get broken out and had many parents that I babysat for ask me to paint there windows for holidays like Christmas and Easter. Growing up and moving a few more times and graduated High School in Riverside Ca. I continued to worked in a creative field most of my life. Now a days I am an interior designer and I often incorporate my own art into my designs with commissioned paintings that I designed specifically for my customers own style and space. Filling as many walls as they will let me. When I am painting, I tried to always reflecting sensitivity and vision in my paintings by communicating visually through a new and unique style and twist to create a brand-new understanding of the realities life presents in a world that is constantly changing. Often painting what is in front of me and sometimes from current event photo references. I establish paintings with a feel of Contemporary Impressionism and sometimes Abstract Expressionism qualities. I strive to design paintings with confidence and boldness of color by taking daring steps towards inspiring a brand-new view of the world; always reaching for an inspirational moment to record in our devouring times.
Mission Statement:
As an artist, my mission is to survive in a style of painting that allows me to continue to make art that captivates people and compels them to buy it.
